Sea-bright days, golden nights

Here, the buzz of the port meets the slower rhythm of Provence. Mornings start with coffee on the quay or a swim off Pampelonne, and the day drifts toward long lunches under the plane trees, rosé from the hills behind town, the smell of salt and pine. But Saint-Tropez has always been more than its beaches. After dark the old streets fill up: candlelit terraces, small bars tucked behind the port, and the celebrated clubs that have set the tone for summer nights since the sixties.

The food is just as much a reason to come, from family-run places grilling the morning’s catch to dining rooms that pull chefs from across the world. A tarte tropézienne in the afternoon, a dinner that runs well past midnight. Every table feels like a reason to stay put a while longer. And for all the glamour, Saint-Tropez hasn’t forgotten what it was. This is still a working port, still a town where the market on the Place des Lices runs as it always has, where old men play pétanque in the shade, and where the Provençal character shows in the small things: generous, sun-worn, quietly proud of itself.
