Val d'Isère

Val d'Isère is where the snow is surest. The village sits at 1,850 metres, among the highest in the Alps, and the lifts climb to 3,456 metres, so the Espace Killy keeps its snow when lower resorts are waiting for weather. The terrain has the depth to match the altitude: long groomed pistes, an Olympic heritage, and the off-piste routes that bring serious skiers back year after year, all above a Savoyard village that has kept its character. Koja d'Or's home here is one address in two halves. Étoile du Nord stands in Petite Alaska, a quiet enclave five minutes from the centre, and is let as two wings, Étoile Nord West Wing and Étoile du Nord East Wing, each with its own pool and spa, or together for a party that needs thirteen bedrooms.

Getting there and getting around

Geneva and Lyon are the airports for scheduled flights, around three hours by road, with the last stretch climbing the Tarentaise into the high valley. For private aircraft, Annecy and Chambéry are both within reach. Tell us your flight and we will arrange the transfer.

Both wings are five minutes by car from the Solaise Express and from the village centre, and every stay at Étoile du Nord comes with a driver, so the morning begins at the door: lift passes delivered, skis fitted in the boot room, the car waiting. The wings share an underground garage with three private spaces and a tunnelled entrance from the road, so arrivals and departures are unseen.

How a stay works

Étoile du Nord is sold at Famille and Gold, the two levels at which a chalet becomes a fully staffed house. At Famille, a private chef cooks breakfast every morning and dinner five nights of the seven, served family-style at a table built for it; a chalet manager runs the house and the resort around you; and a driver covers the start and end of the ski day, with the restaurant run on the chef's evenings off. At Gold, the house runs from seven in the morning until one at night: a butler leading a team of hosts, a chef designing menus around the party, afternoon tea after the last run, turn-down, laundry and linen looked after, flowers in every bedroom and a chauffeur on full hours. Which Val d'Isère chalet suits ten adults and five children?

Étoile Nord West Wing, and it was configured for exactly that party: ten adults across five bedrooms and five children in a bunk room that sleeps five, with a bathroom nearby. It is 700 m² over five levels with a lift to every floor, an indoor pool with a deep end and a shallow jacuzzi zone, a sauna, hammam and massage room, a gym, and a games and cinema room with a pool table and table tennis. The master suite has its own hot tub.

Can two families book Val d'Isère together?

Yes. Étoile du Nord's two wings can be taken together: twenty-two adults and eight children across thirteen bedrooms, each wing with its own pool, spa, living floor and entrance, and a shared garage between them. Tell us how the two households like to live and we will shape the week around it.

What is the difference between the East and West wings?

The East Wing is the larger: twelve adults and three children across seven en-suite bedrooms, 710 m² over four floors, with an indoor-outdoor pool that opens through a retractable glass wall, a hammam, a home cinema, and a bunk room for three that connects to the cinema area. The West Wing takes ten adults and five children across six bedrooms on five levels, with an indoor pool, a full spa, a gym and a games room. Both have a lift, a private ski and boot room and an outdoor hot tub.

Does every stay at Étoile du Nord include a chef?

Yes. Both wings are sold at Famille and Gold, so a private chef, a chalet manager or butler, and a driver are part of every week. Guests who like to cook for themselves on the chef's evenings off have the West Wing's open kitchen with its large island; in the East Wing the professional kitchen is the chef's domain and the evening is for the restaurant run.

How far are the chalets from the lifts?

Five minutes by car to the Solaise Express, and the same to the village centre. The driver included at both service levels makes the run, and lift passes are delivered to the chalet with skis fitted in the boot room, so the day starts at the door.
